About Greenwich Advanced Counseling

Founded by the Stanwich Church in 2007, the vision for Greenwich Advanced Counseling (formerly the Greenwich Center for Hope & Renewal), was to provide therapy that offers healing and hope to all people.

For the last eighteen years we have embodied that mission in Greenwich and the surrounding areas.

Our Mission and Values

The mission of Greenwich Advanced Counseling is to serve the community by providing effective, affordable, research-based mental health counseling for individuals, children, couples and families.

Our mission is guided by the values of:

Dignity: we honor the client’s experience with the opportunity to be heard and understood in a safe, confidential environment.

Accessibility: Knowing that the cost of counseling can be a significant barrier to seeking help, we offer a sliding scale and financial assistance for those who qualify.

Connection: We emphasize the value of relationships in the healing journey and incorporate therapeutic approaches that nurture the foundation for healthy, thriving relationships. Community awareness and support is also vital to our ability to achieve our mission. Our efforts to educate and collaborate with faith communities, the medical community, schools and other interested organizations provide additional opportunities for greater awareness and understanding of our services.

Education: We provide weekly supervision and financial support for our therapists to participate in continuing education. Additionally, we host educational training for our staff and local professional therapists multiple times a year.

Excellence: In addition to the standards necessary for licensure, Greenwich Advanced Counseling has a professional environment in which our therapists and staff operate with best practices, maintain HIPAA compliance and prioritize privacy and client care.

Our Commitment to You

When you meet us you will be welcomed with warmth, hospitality, and a comfortable environment where you can feel safe to let your guard down and show up as you are.

With us you will be met with acceptance, understanding, and gentle curiosity to learn more about your needs, your goals and how we can meet them together.

Our History

2007

The Greenwich Center for Hope & Renewal (GCHR) was founded in 2007 by the Stanwich Congregational Church to meet the needs for mental health care in the Greenwich community and the surrounding areas. Led by Reverend Neely Towe and a dedicated group of supporters, their vision for GCHR was to be a place that reflected the life and ministry of Christ who welcomed everyone, offering healing and hope.

This vision of GCHR forms the core of its identity, and creates unity and a shared sense of calling among the Board and staff. It also ensures that GCHR offers clients who are people of faith a space where their beliefs and values are respected and upheld, while continuing to provide the highest quality of mental health care to everyone, regardless of whether they identify with a faith tradition or not.

Paul Sorenson served as the first Executive Director of GCHR and is responsible for recruiting many of the therapists who remain with GCHR to this day.

2011

In 2011 Paul’s successor, Heather Wright, became the Executive Director, and oversaw the growth of GCHR’s counseling services, expansion of its training programs, and led GCHR through a difficult legal battle involving the town’s zoning regulations, which was ultimately resolved in GCHR’s favor.

Heather left GCHR in 2018 and was followed by Paul Gojkovich who served as the Executive Director for two years.

2020

In 2020, amidst the Covid Pandemic, GCHR hired Erin Keys to be its fourth Executive Director. Under her leadership, GCHR responded to the record need for mental health care resulting from the pandemic, and embraced the advent of teletherapy. With the Board, Erin has worked to further define GCHR’s mission and, expand its outreach, and increase its ability to make therapy affordable to anyone in need

2025

The Greenwich Center for Hope & Renewal officially rebranded to Greenwich Advanced Counseling (Greenwich Advanced Counseling) in 2025.

For almost two decades, Greenwich Advanced Counseling has quietly been changing the lives of countless individuals, couples and families. It has been backcountry Greenwich’s best kept secret: if you want healing and hope from professionals who care deeply, give generously, and bring a wealth of education and experience, this is the place to go. At Greenwich Advanced Counseling we believe deeply in the right each person has to health, well-being, and life-giving relationships. We are passionate about working with each person who crosses our threshold to make therapy accessible, affordable, and even enjoyable, because we know the promise of new life that healing can bring.

Our Building

Located in the historic Stanwich Church building, our offices are discrete, quite, and surrounded by the beautiful backcountry Greenwich landscape. Many of our clients comment that the drive to our offices is itself therapeutic. Inside our offices you will find a comfortable waiting area complete with a dedicated children’s area.

We are also delighted to feature the paintings of local artist, Katie Troyer. The paintings you see in our building and and our website were created specifically for Greenwich Advanced Counseling, with the intention of providing a calm, uplifting, peaceful place for clients to gather themselves before and after their session.

More About Us

Our Therapists

We work with clients to address issues related to how we think and see the world. Anxiety, depression, rumination, ADHD, are just some of the issues we treat by employing a wide-range of techniques like CBT, DBT, psychodynamic therapy, and narrative therapy.

Fee and Financial Assistance

At Greenwich Advanced Counseling we believe therapy should be affordable for everyone. We know how hard it is to find the right therapist, and we know how disappointing it can be when that therapist is out of your price range or does not take your insurance. This is why we make our therapy affordable by offering a tiered pricing structure, that makes it possible for you to see the therapist you need, regardless of your ability to pay.

How We Help

Making meaning out of our experiences is an essential component to mental health. We have therapists who focus speicfically on helping clients make sense of grief, life changes, questions of faith and one’s purpose in the world. We are sensitive to and respect the values and beliefs each client holds and incorporate them in the therapeutic process.
